I’ve often wondered as a man, why there are so few vegan men. Whilst I know several male vegans within my own friendship circle, as a whole men only make up around 20% of vegans. Is there a connection between eating ‘meat’ and masculinity? As John Joseph, frontman of the legendary hardcore punk band Cro-Mags, Ironman triathlete, and author of Meat is for Pussies puts it:

“There’s the stereotype that meat is macho, it’s protein, and real men eat meat. But because of these foods, these same ‘real men’ are suffering from all kinds of diseases, heart attacks, and erectile dysfunction where their fucking dicks don’t work.”

He has even raised the point that eating meat is for cowards. Coward defined as:

“A person who is contemptibly lacking in the courage to do or endure dangerous or unpleasant things”

And let’s be honest most people wouldn’t be able to kill the animals they eat themselves, so technically by definition, those who pay others to kill animals are cowards. Nothing manly about that at all.

There is also that notion that you need to eat animal meat to have the adequate amount of protein for fitness and to build muscle. Which if you are among the vegan culture you know is far from true and a total myth. Take for example:

Frank Medrano a CALISTHENICS BODYWEIGHT expert who is a physical phenom.

Nate Diaz UFC Fighter and recent winner of the biggest UFC fight in history.

Patrick Baboumian World Record Holding Strong Man.

David Haye Heavy Weight Boxing Champ

And a shit load of body builders inlcuding former Mr Universe Barny Du Plesis.

So the question begs how do we start removing this social stigma behind veganism. Just as I have mentioned in previous videos, nobody likes being told what to do, especially men! So my suggestion is, every time you have the opportunity to serve up a vegan meal to someone to demonstrate how awesome it is, that is your opportunity to open up the dialogue and get them thinking about their decisions about what they put in their body and the benefits.

Finally let’s look at 5 solid reasons that more men should consider veganism:

Ironically, vegan men have higher levels of Testosterone. Making them more manly.
Vegan men also have lower cancer risk.
Vegan Men Have Less Erectile Dysfunction.
Vegan Men Have a More Attractive Scent.
Lastly and most importantly, taking a stand against the inhumane cruelty that our fellow earthlings endure is extremely manly. While many remain complicit, you will have conviction and integrity.

Oh and bonus point if you’re a man on the dating scene, just think of the ratio of vegan women to men. There’s plenty of fish in that sea.
