Best vegan-friendly cities around the world 2024

Travelling while vegan comes with its challenges. From booking an all-inclusive and coming to find out that food-wise, it isn’t that inclusive after all, or browsing low-cost destinations and being unable to book due to the lack of vegan restaurant options.

Despite the growth of veganism and its general awareness over the years, vegan foodies who love to visit new places still have much to consider when choosing the right destination.

To help take the guesswork out of choosing your next holiday destination, Titan Travel has created a list of the top 10 vegan-friendly cities around the world.

Using Tripadvisor cuisine data, the list ranks cities by the total number of vegan restaurants per Km2.

Before jumping into the list I’d like to point out that the data analyses the quantity and not the quality of vegan restaurants.

I have also added a few of my favourite vegan cities that have not made the list.

My thoughts on the list

When travelling, I love to immerse myself in the culture as much as possible, and for me, the two most important components when it comes to culture are 1, people and 2, food.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few of these cities, some of which feature a few of my favourite restaurants.

Without being biased, I would rank my hometown London no.1 when it comes to diversity, quality and affordability. Being such a culturally diverse city we are fortunate to have a variety of options from cuisines all over the world.

A few must visit vegan restaurants in London

Mali Thai (Earl’s Court) is a Thai vegan restaurant..

Halo Burger (Brixton)

Wulf & Lamb (Sloane Square)

Fharmacy (Westbourne Grove)

Recommended Cities I’ve travelled to not on the list

Milan (Italy)

La Colubrina vegan restaurant Madrid

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of vegan restaurants in Milan. When speaking with the owners I was also impressed by their activism. Two must-visit spots are:

  1. La Colubrina
  2. Leccornie

Mexico City (Mexico)

Mexico City is high on the list when it comes to both quality and affordability. I’ll share a full breakdown in my Mexico Food diary, but from day 1 the food was undeniable.

Phuket (Thailand)

In 2022 I visited Thailand for the third time and spent over 6 weeks in Phuket (a place I avoided on my first two visits). The stigma of Phuket being overly touristic and a party town was flipped completely. We spent the entire 6-weeks in the Old Town and despite many of the local restaurants being branded as Vegetarian, most had extensive vegan options (a lot were completely vegan).

Although the language barrier can sometimes be difficult, Thailand, specifically Phuket, cannot be beat on affordability and quantity of places to eat.

Kingston (Jamaica)

It’s difficult to list the top vegan-friendly cities and not include Kingston. Again, this is a location that might not be the most popular and wouldn’t necessarily label restaurants as ‘vegan’ however due to the Rastafarian religion, there are many restaurants that are ‘Ital’. For a full understanding of what Ital is please click the link, but in its simplest form (although a lot more), eating Ital means eating organically grown food from the earth.
