Difference between YAMS and SWEET POTATO :

Most folks in North America get yams mixed up with the unrelated sweet potato – and I want to clear the confusion once and for all!
Yams belong to the lily family. They are more starchy when compared to sweet potatoes, and have a huge variation in size. The skin is almost like the bark of a tree, and the taste is also less sweet. Yams are a staple carb in African and Asian countries, where they are called nyami.

Sweet potatoes are from the morning glory family, and are usually found in two avatars. The firmer, white fleshed type and the softer, sweeter orange fleshed kind. If you want to remember the gist of this post, just know sweet potatoes are not yams and neither are they potatoes!
