Nuts For Cheese Earns Globally Recognized Food Safety Certification – vegconomist

Nuts For Cheese, producer of organic cashew-based artisanal cheese, announces its attainment of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Certification with an A grade. The BRC creates and implements global standards for food safety, ethical trade, responsible sourcing, packaging materials, and more.

“The smiles on consumers’ faces after they enjoy our cheese is the real indication we’ve met our goals”

The achievement of this internationally recognized certification, overseen by the BRC Global Food Safety Certification program and endorsed by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), solidifies the company’s commitment to quality, safety, and excellence at its 25,000-square-foot cheese production facility located in London, Ontario.

Margaret Coons, the founder and CEO of Nuts For Cheese, expressed, “Quality has always been our number one priority. From our wholesome ingredients to house-made cultures and sauces, our mission is to make delicious cashew-based cheese for cheese lovers everywhere.”

To date, Nuts For Cheese has secured a total capital investment of $8 million, with significant backing from Forage Capital and individual investors, including Mike Fata, founder of Manitoba Harvest, and Dror Balshine, founder of Sol Cuisine. $1 million of this capital was allocated directly to its state-of-the-art cheesemaking facility, which played a pivotal role in obtaining the BRC Certification.

The certification process involved a comprehensive third-party audit evaluating all facets of their operations, including the installation of a new production line to accommodate their latest offering: cashew-based cream cheese style spreads.

Next phase of growth

While the company’s robust year-on-year growth is thanks to the success of its existing line, offering distinctive cheese wedge packaging, unique flavor profiles, and leverage of a fermentation process similar to traditional cheesemaking; the new cream cheese style spreads represent the first steps in the company’s next phase of growth.

The spreads, available in Original, Garlic & Herb, and Lemon Dill, can be found in independent natural stores across Canada. The spreads are also set to debut in Fortinos, Metro, Longos, and select Sobeys stores this September.

Coons further commented, “The smiles on consumers’ faces after they enjoy our cheese is the real indication we’ve met our goals. Consumers are discovering that with Nuts For Cheese they can finally have a delightful dairy-free cheese experience that offers great taste and clean ingredients. Ultimately, that has been a key driver behind our rapid growth and the fact that we are the brand driving the most growth in the category.”
