Rinse the dried chickpeas with water and leave them to soak for 12 hours. After soaking, rinse it again and boil it in plenty of water. Add turmeric and cumin seeds to the water in which the chickpeas are cooked for better digestion of the pulses. Never add salt to the water as the pulses might remain hard. Cook the chickpeas for about 20 minutes or until they are soft. Once cooked, rinse it with water. Cooked chickpeas are excellent in cold or warm salads, as a side dish, in soups, roasted as a healthy snack or they make a delicious hummus.
